Career Education
INTRO
Career and Technical Education (CTE) is an educational program that is centered on providing students with hands-on, skills focused learning opportunities that will prepare them for their transition to the next level of education and/or workforce entry. The CTE Program is a major part of Midland ISD's mission to ensure all students are prepared and ready for college or career. There are standard credit and dual credit CTE Programs of Study.
Our Standard Credit Programs of Study (POS) provide college and career preparation based on a student’s interest. Each POS leads to an endorsement and many provide the opportunity to earn industry certifications.
Our College and Career Academy offers Dual Credit Programs of Study that lead to industry-Based, Occupational Skills, and Level I Certifications.
DUAL
Our College and Career Academies are Dual Credit Programs of Study that lead to industry-Based and Level I Certifications. In partnership with Midland College (MC), students are able to embark on pathways that enable them to fulfill high school graduation requirements while also earning college credits that lead to industry certifications and university transfer programs. The dual credit programs of study offered at Coleman are: Firefighter - Designed to prepare aspiring firefighters to meet and exceed all state requirements in preparation for a career as a firefighter. Learn More Law Enforcement - Coming in August 2022! |
STANDARD
|
Our Standard Credit Programs of Study (POS) provide college and career preparation based on a student’s interest. Each POS leads to an endorsement and many provide the opportunity to earn industry certifications. While Coleman HS does not offer all of the programs of study offered at LHS and MHS, in many cases students are able to maintain their originally chosen program of study if the courses needed are offered within the Edmentum learning platform. During the admissions processes, the CHS counselor will review the student's transcript and determine which courses are available in order ensure he/she is a program of study "completer" upon graduation. |
WORK-BASED
In addition to CTE Programs of Study, we offer Work-based Learning Opportunites. The Coleman High School Work Program is comprised of 2 parts:
Career Preparation Coursework - Our Career Preparation course provides opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.
Practicum Coursework - The practicum is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences occur in a paid or unpaid arrangement and in a variety of instructional settings.
